First-aid measures

General information: Immediately remove all contaminated clothing and footwear.

Inhalation: Move the person away from the contaminated area. Make the affected person rest. Obtain medical attention.

Eye contact: Rinse immediately opened eye(s) thoroughly for several minutes with water. If symptoms persist consult a physician.

Skin contact: Wash immediately and thoroughly with water.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable : water, foam, powders, carbon dioxide.

Not suitable : None to our knowledge. If there is a fire close by, use suitable extinguishing agents.

Specific hazards: On heating, after complete evaporation of water may partially decompose, releasing combustible gases (phosphine).

Specific fire fighting methods : Do NOT attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment.

Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes.

Do not breathe fumes.

Protection of fire-fighters: Complete protective clothing. Use of self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Prevent the product from spreading into the environment.

Personal protective equipment: acid-resistant protective clothing; eye/face protection (safety glasses + visor); appropriate long gloves. For further information refer to "Exposure-controls/personal protection".

Stop the leak, and if possible, avoid any contact with skin and clothing. Remove all incompatible materials as quickly as possible: alkalis and caustic products; oxidizing materials.

Environmental precautions: Prevent the product from spreading into the environment. For further information refer to “Disposal Considerations”.

Do NOT put the spilled material back into the original container for re-use.

Recovery : Collect up the product and place it in a spare container: suitably labelled: acid-resistant. Avoid creating or spreading dust. Keep the recovered product for subsequent disposal.

Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash the non-recoverable remainder with plenty of water.

Disposal: Place in an appropriate container and dispose of the contaminated material at a licensed site.

Handling and storage

Measures: Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Avoid the formation or spread of dust in the atmosphere.

Work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid any direct contact with the product. Do NOT handle without gloves and eye protection.

Avoid contact with metals

Safe handling advice: Carefully comply with the instructions for use. Do not mix with incompatible materials (oxidizers).

Recommended: Store away from incompatible materials; in a cool, well-ventilated area

Incompatible products: Products with strongly opposite pH. Oxidizing agents and oxidizing materials.

Packaging: Product must only be kept in the original packaging.

Recommended : Acid resistant material, e.g. PE drums.

Not suitable: Aluminium and its alloys, Carbon steel

Further information: This product may be corrosive to metals. Keep the packaging tightly closed when not in use.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protective equipment

Protective equipment must be chosen according to current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of protective equipment.

Wear suitable clothing. Wear impermeable protective gloves – chemical resistant and compliant with Standard EN 374-1. Protective gloves must be selected according to the function of the industrial installation – the other chemicals being handled, whether physical protection is required, and the degree of dexterity required.

Wear safety spectacles, goggles, or a face shield, according to the task.

It is recommended that in the event that mists could be formed, for example, by spray operations, they should be contained by such as local exhaust ventilation (fully inspected, maintained and cleaned) in order to minimize exposure. Otherwise, respiratory protective equipment should be worn.

Emergency equipment

Ensure that an eye-wash fountain, a safety shower and a first-aid box are readily available.

Hygiene measures

Use clean and correctly maintained personal protective equipment. Keep personal protective equipment in a clean place, away from the work area. Always wash hands immediately after handling the product, and once again before leaving the workplace. Do not eat or drink in the workplace.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable at ambient temperature and under normal conditions of use.

Hazardous decomposition products: After vaporization: on hot surfaces combustion or thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) toxic and corrosive vapours (Phosphorus oxides) may be released. Self-decomposition may occur at > 200°C. Toxic and highly flammable vapours which increase the risk of a fire or explosion (Phosphine) may be formed

Disposal considerations

Do NOT dispose of with domestic waste. Do not allow the product to be released into the environment. Discharging waste into rivers and drains is forbidden.

Destruction/Disposal: Dispose of in accordance with relevant local regulations. Must undergo physico-chemical treatment prior to disposal.

Decontamination/cleaning of contaminated packaging : Wash with water. Allow it to drain thoroughly. If necessary, neutralize contaminated cleaning water prior to disposal. Destruction/Disposal of contaminated packaging: Reuse or recycle following decontamination.
