Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant

Description of key information

According to REACH Annex IX, Column 2 an activated sludge respiration inhibition test does not need to be carried out if the test substance is readily biodegradable. The toxicity of the substance to STP microorganisms is derived from the 28 day ready biodegradability study presented in section 5. No inhibition was indicated in the biodegradability study at concentrations expected to be in the range of those present in influent of an STP. As such no risk to STP microorganisms is expected and so a further study to assess the short term toxicity to microbes is not required in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX.
