Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): DD Lactide
- Batch no: 0809002497
- Purity 100 %
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 2009-11-02
- Stability under storage conditions: stable
- test substance storage: at room temperature in the dark
Key result
Water solubility:
16.3 g/L
Temp.:
20.1 °C
pH:
1.5
Details on results:
The results for the samples taken at 1, 2, 4, 24 and 48 hours showed, that concentration of the degradation product increased in time whereas concentration of DD-lactide remained stable over the first 24 hours. This indicates equilibrium between degradation and dissolution over this time period. At 48 hours no DD-lactide was detected. This was due to the fact that all DD-lactide had dissolved and degraded somewhere between 24 and 48 hours.

Conclusions:
DD-lactide degrades rapidly in water. Water solubility of this test substance at 20.1 ± 0.6 °C in the presence of excess undissolved DD-lactide, was determined to be 16.3 g/L. The pH of the aqueous sample after 24 hours of stirring was 1.5.
Executive summary:

In this study the water solubility of DD-lactide was determined in accordance with OECD guideline 105.
