Description of key information

A long-term toxicity study of benoxacor to freshwater fish (Pimephales promelas) is available (Rufli, 2002). The study has been carried out to the OECD guideline 210 and provided a 32-day NOEC of 0.31mg/L for benoxacor.

Additional information

The key study (Rufli, 2002), which investigated the toxicity of benoxacor to fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) using newly fertilised eggs and applying chronic exposure under flow-through conditions, provided a value of 0.31 mg/L for the 32-day NOEC based on effects of the substance on hatchability, growth and survival. This study followed the OECD Guideline 210 Fish Early-Life Stage, which covers the most critical and sensitive life stages of the fish and is suitable for examining the potential toxic effects of bioaccumulation. The study was GLP compliant, and is considered to be reliable without restrictions (Klimisch 1).

The key value used in the chemical safety assessment is the NOEC of 0.31 mg/L (Rufli, 2002).
