Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. If not breathing give

artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give

oxygen. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with large quantities of water for at

least 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Symptoms should be

treated as for other organo-halide materials.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and immediately wash skin with

soap and water. If signs of discomfort develop, seek medical

advice. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink plenty of water and seek medical advice. Do not induce

vomiting as bromine compounds are potentially damaging to

the lungs.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray, chemical foam, carbon dioxide or dry powder may

be used. Do not use water jet.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon,

hydrogen bromide and bromine. Incomplete combustion will

lead to the formation of organo-bromine derivatives and

soot.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: A self-contained breathing apparatus with complete skin

cover should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (see 2.3.1).

Contain the area of spillage and absorb onto sand or other

absorbant materials for transfer to closed, labelled

containers. Dispose of the used absorbant material as

hazardous waste by incineration at a suitable facility in

accordance with local regulations. Ventilate and thoroughly

wash area of spill with large quantities of water.

Contamination of ponds or waterways must be avoided.

Non-emergency personnel should be kept away from the area of

the spill.

Handling and storage

Handling: Ensure adequate ventilation, use local exhaust ventilation

if appropriate. Rubber gloves, goggles/face protection and

coveralls should be worn. If ventilation is adequate, wear

an approved respirator. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage: Store under ambient conditions in tightly closed containers

away from food or feed stuffs. Store away from strong

oxidising or reducing agents and acids/bases in a cool, dry

place. The substance is not considered to be volatile but

maintain good ventilation and avoid build up of fumes.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 25 or 50 kg laquered drums.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: During a flash point investigation, a violent eruption of

the liquid was observed at temperatures in excess of 140 deg

C.

Chemical reaction with water: Not considered to be reactive with water although

degradation by hydrolysis is thought to occur.

Dust explosion: Not applicable, substance is a liquid.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for recycling is not considered to be practical.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not permitted.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method at a suitable facility. Waste gas

treatment to remove acidic gases should be fitted. (A661)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not permitted.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
