Conclusions:
The kinematic viscosity of the test material anthracene oil (CCSG composite sample 07) (anthracene oil with < 50 ppm BaP, AOL) was determined in replicate experiments at 120 and 80 °C according to guideline ASTM 445-06. The kinematic viskosity was 1.5 and 5.0 mm²/s at 120 and 80 °C, respectively.

Description of key information

The viscosity of anthracene oil (CCSG composite sample 07, ATE 10443) could not be determined at the standard temperature (20 and 40 °C) of the test method, because the material is solid at this temperatures. For another batch of anthracene oil (ATE 10120) being fluid at the higher test temperature (40 °C), a dynamic viscosity of 14.9 mPa*s was measured.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
14.9 mPa · s (dynamic)
at the temperature of:
40 °C

Additional information

Different batches of anthracene oil can have different melting points due to the UCVB nature of the substance. The dynamic viscosity of anthracene oil at 40 °C was determined using the batch ATE 10120 (see above). For anthracene oil (CCSG composite sample 07, ATE 10443), the viscosity had to be determined at temperatures 80 °C. The dynamic viscosity according to DIN 53019 was measured to be 2.4 mPas at 100 °C. The kinematic viscosity (ASTM 445-08) was shown to be 5 and 1.5 mm²/s at 80 and 120 °C, respectively.
