Description of key information

Several GLP-studies according to OECD guidelines 301F, 301E, 301B and a non-GLP study according to OECD guideline 302B are available for dipropylene glycol methyl ether. In addition an anaerobic biodegradation study conducted according to GLP is available.

Additional information

Dipropylene glycol methyl ether meets the criteria for ready biodegradation passing the 10 day window in an OECD 301 F (GLP). Degradation based on oxygen consumption reached 75 % after 10 days and 79% degradation after 28 days. The formation of CO2reached 76% CO2, suggesting the extensive mineralisation of dipropylene glycol methyl ether. Other studies support the biodegradation results of dipropylene glycol methyl ether, such as shown in an OECD 301E study (72.9 % based on DOC) and in an inherent OECD 302 B study (94% based on DOC) and in a 301 B modified Sturm test (34% biodegradation thCO2).

 

Based on the available test results, dipropylene glycol methyl ether can be classified as ”Readily biodegradable passing the 10 day window”.
