The test item Sodium dicyclohexyl sulfosuccinate shows a melting of crystalline subcomponents at 200 °C (in the 2nd and 3rd heating run) according to the definition in the OECD Guideline 102 (mean value from repeat determinations; 1st melting from the sub component).

In the Klimisch 1 non-GLP study from Kintrup (2012) the melting point of Sodium dicyclohexyl sulfosuccinate was determined with the DSC method according to OECD 102 and EU method A.1. The test item melted at 200°C. Decomposition was not observed.

For the risk assessment a melting point of 200°C will be used.

Executive summary:

The melting point of the test substance was determined using a Mettler 821e DSC. Test was performed with a pierced lid in order to remove any residual moisture as sample is hydroscopic. Test substance specimens were scanned at 10°C/min from 100°C to 225°C for both heat cycles. However, a 20 minute isotherm was performed before each step in order to dry the specimens. An indium standard was used to calibrate the instrument. The standard was also scanned at 10°C/min. The melting point is 199.8°C. The method has an estimated accuracy of ±0.5°C.

In the supporting study the melting point of the test substance was determined in the Cytec non GLP Klimisch 1 study (Rivera 2011) using DSC. Test was performed with a pierced lid in order to remove any residual moisture as sample is hydroscopic. Test substance specimens were scanned at 10°C/min from 100°C to 225°C for both heat cycles. However, a 20 minute isotherm was performed before each step in order to dry the specimens. An indium standard was used to calibrate the instrument. The standard was also scanned at 10°C/min. The melting point is 199.8°C. The method has an estimated accuracy of ±0.5°C. 


 


Both studies determined virtually the same melting temperature. Both studies have high quality. The mean of both studies is 200°C. For the risk assessment a melting point of 200°C will be used.


 


The test result is considered relevant and reliable for the risk assessment.
