Description of key information

The acute toxicity to algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) of 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one was observed during an exposure period of 72 hours. The growth rates were measured as an ErC10 of >0.412 mg/L and an ErC50 of >0.412 mg/L; a NOEC [r] of > 0.412 mg/L and a LOEC [r] of >0.412 mg/L were calculated.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The key value for chemical safety assessment was reported as EC50 of >0.412 mg/L and a NOEC of >0.412 mg/L.

The tested concentration is higher than the water solubility (<0.026 mg/L). In the algal media mor 3 -hydroxy-2 -(3 -hydroxy-2 -quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one might be more soluable due to different pH and salinity compared to demineralized water. Also the test compound might have been partly undissolved in the test media. In conclusion, up to water solubility limit no effects on test species were observed.
