Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Expected non-toxic to microorganisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No specific data exists on the short-term toxicity to microorganisms.

However Lysozyme is naturally occurring in many organisms and exhibits a specific antimicrobial activity; nevertheless due to the high diversity of the sewage treatment plant microorganisms community, Lysozyme is not expected to be toxic to the STP.

The only data published available is reported in the HERA documentation on Subtilisins (Protease):

EC10 (exposure time unknown): 13,100 mg/L (not based on aep)[1 -2]

This data was reported as having a Klimisch score of 4 in the HERA document, thus not suitable for the aquatic toxicity assessment.

No published data are available on the effects of Lysozyme towards sewage treatment plant-relevant microorganisms; nevertheless as this enzymes are produced by bacteria as well as by fungi in nature, no adverse effects on other microorganisms are expected at environmentally relevant concentrations.
